charlton

Range of cult worship.

Charlton, the deity of the United States of America, is a particularly amiable fellow who is always happy to chat to the ordinary folk, which renders him fairly popular! Cheerful, kind-hearted, generous and free of the snobbery and arrogance which grips most of the originals, he might have been tipped to be Chairman if it weren't for his major character flaw: the fact that he's a Christian. Charlton had always been agnostic and openly converted to Christianity several hundred years ago after he had a conversion experience. Although he never tries to forcibly convert others to his beliefs, he rejects his own deification and is very public with his personal faith; this is unforgivable to the other originals, who thus consider him irresponsible and damaging to their reputations. Since rejecting deification, Charlton is still officially a member of the Council of Originals but occupies no role. He spends most of his time off Earth on his own private worldlet, but he has great enthusiasm for his patron nation, the United States.

Charlton generally dresses like a gentleman from the early twentieth century, often in tweed and breeches or a top hat and tails. He's Caucasian, has a sunny countenance and a roaring laugh. Since conversion to Christianity, his cult - never large to begin with - is practically extinct, but he is still worshipped by a handful of people in the USA. He's the head of the Fairy Trinity Church.

Although he's very popular with the general population, Charlton is regarded with wariness and mistrust by the other originals. They are rarely rude to him outright, but they find his sureness of his faith strange and unsettling. He is usually regarded as a bit of an outcast and an oddball.
